Learning to snowboard can seem frightening for those with no winter sports experience, but it shouldn’t be! With a little preparation and a positive attitude, learning to snowboard can be the first exciting step towards a lifetime of fun on the mountains. Adhere to the checklist below, and you’ll be shredding down the hill in no time.

If it’s your first time snowboarding, rent a snowboard and snowboard boots. There’s no point in investing in all that equipment until you’re sure this sport is for you. Sign up for Matt Belair-snow boarding academy

The development of snowboarding was inspired by surfing and skateboarding, and the sport shares superficial similarities with skiing. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s and the 1970s and became a Winter Olympic Sport in 1998.

Make Sure You Have Everything. Before you leave for the mountain, look through your gear bag and make sure you have everything.

Start Slow. Snowboarding is like riding a bike - you never forget how to ride, but falls hurt just as much this time as they did the last. Take some time to get reacquainted with the snow, your gear, and gravity before trying that backside spin you spent the summer practicing on the diving board.

Ride Defensively. At the start of the season, terrain is often limited, with a large number of (sometimes shaky) skiers and riders competing for the same space. Again, take it slow, and be aware of others around you, particularly when making heelside turns (because snowboarders are “blind” (similar to a vehicle’s blind spot) when making heelside turns, it’s important to look over the uphill shoulder before cutting across a crowded trail.

Dress Appropriately. Dressing in layers will ensure you’re prepared for changing weather conditions.

DON’T Forget to Tune Your Ride. Early season snow is usually harder than the stuff you’re used to riding in February, and high traffic tends to scrape off soft snow fairly quickly, so make sure to have your board tuned (edges sharpened and base waxed). Also remember to tighten your binding’s mounting hardware, as it may have loosened over the summer.

Big Sky Ski Resort

With all that Big Sky, Montana has to offer skiers, it is amazing that so few know about its existence! Known for its wide open slopes and short lift lines, Big Sky Ski Resort has one of the largest lift served vertical drops in the United States. Over 5300 acres of ski slopes and trails await skiers, with over 33 feet of snowfall each season.

Big Sky Ski Resort features twenty three lifts, 220 trails, and a 4350 foot vertical drop. The top elevation is 11154 feet. Along with the ski lifts, there are also two cable car lines available. While there are beginner slopes, most of the slopes are geared toward intermediate and expert skiers.

Big Sky has three mountains to delight skiers and snowboarders. Lone Mountain is the resort’s signature peak, rising to 11,166 feet. Both thses bedrooms and the livingroom have unobstructed views of the lake and mountains. The livingroom also has a queen sofa sleeper. Panorama with Brady on the left looking down the mountain. Above Brady’s head you can see the main peak at Big Sky (we went up to the very top of this peak later in the day, pictures below).

For the cross-country skier , Lone Mountain Ranch grooms 75+ kilometers of trails that wind their way through the woods, meadows and golf course of Big Sky . Fly fishing , hiking, whitewater rafting , backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding and golfing are some of Big Sky’s most popular warm weather activities.

The two resorts share the same mountain - Lone Peak, which is nearly an hour from Bozeman. At one time, the resorts shared several trails and a lift.

For those who dare, the Lone Peak Tram takes the bold to the apex, with 3,600 acres, 4,350 jaw-dropping vertical feet and expert terrain below. Combined, the two trail networks offer nearly 5,300 acres of skiable terrain and the second-biggest vertical descent in the US, at 4,350′. Between them, the two resorts operate 23 lifts. Coupled with easy access to the slopes and an average annual snowfall of 400 inches, terrain parks and halfpipes, you can see why Big Sky has become one of the top ski resorts in the country. Big Sky is perfect for everyone from beginners to experts.

Although time on the slopes is a primary reason people head to the mountains, there is another reason. For instance, people interested in visiting Utah might look at the different choices for Park City Utah ski lodging, which ranges from simplistic to grand. With so many lodging choices, people can stay in Park City on a tight budget.

In most cases, people find the mountains of Utah to be much more than they ever expected. With well-groomed slopes, charming towns, and hospitable people, it is no wonder.

For children, many of the Park City ski vacations will include lessons, which are highly recommended for children and people who have never skied before. Best of all, classes are available for families, starting at age three. Skiers will also have the choice of a single day or multiple day passes, with the multiple day option being the most economical overall. Even people with disabilities can enjoy Park City, Utah, another reason this is definitely a hot spot.

While skiing and snowboarding are the two main attractions for people interested in Park City ski vacations, remember that there are many other activities going on in the area. For instance, people can discover snowmobiling, inner tubing, dog sledding, sleigh rides, or simply kick back at the hotel or condominium while sitting in an oversized hot tub.

The lift prices for Park City ski vacations are very affordable, especially when compared to other ski resorts. For operations of the ski lifts, it varies depending on the season. The early season starts on opening day and goes until December 18, the value season, a time when ticket prices are most affordable is form December 9 through December 15 and then again from April 9 to April 15, and finally, the normal season, which runs from December 16 all the way to April 8.

Although most people will choose from Park City ski vacations so they get more to do, better accommodations, and great prices, some will simply come to spend time on the slopes. In this case, the price would include access to all the ski lifts at the Park City resort and for the number of days chosen. Skiing and snowboarding begins at 9:00 am and continues to 4:00 pm although there is also night skiing starting on December 25 that goes from 4:00 to 7:30 pm.

Ideally the Alyeska Resort serves as the base camp for adventures on the Kenai Peninsula before or after your Alaskan cruise or as a part of your Alaska FIT. Girdwood has evolved from a gold mining town into Alaska’s only year-round resort community. Not many other people have the same idea, despite the fact that the Alyeska Resort gets about 782 inches of snowfall annually. Yet snow sport lovers from the lower 48 states perceive Girdwood Alaska to be a place characterized by extreme terrain, sub zero temperatures and perpetual darkness.

Alyeska Resort is a favored resort for family vacations. Alyeska offers 2,500 vertical feet of terrain.

Other winter activities that can be enjoyed in and around the Alyeska Resort include flight seeing, heliskiing, ocean cruising tours, dog sledding, ice climbing, back country skiing, mountaineering and polar bear watching tours. Another option for extreme terrain at Alyeska Resort is to traverse all the way across the main bowl and drop down into some fresh powder or continue to Max’s steeps. The famous Alyeska Resort in the state gets about 631 inches of snow ever year. It is 2751 feet from the top and 2501 inches vertically.

The season begins at the Alyeska Resort in mid November, and runs through mid April. This area of Alaska boasts the longest daytime areas in the United States, with approximately sixteen hours of daylight each day during April. During December, however, there are only about seven hours of daylight – which makes night time skiing necessary if you are going to get in the time that you want to spend on the slopes.

The Hotel Alyeska and Alyeska Resort features a variety of restaurants for the asorted tastes of its guests. The Pond Cafe is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Snow-capped mountains, hanging glaciers and dancing Northern Lights make Alyeska Resort a winter wonderland where adventures abound. Alyeska offers 2,500 vertical feet of terrain. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Alyeska Resort. Conditions are more reminiscent of early spring than they are in December, with several feet of deep soft snow covering all elevations of the mountain.

The Alyeska Resort in stunning Alaska is already offering season passes for the upcoming winter season, allowing visitors to experience everything that only the mountains of Alaska have to offer avid snowboarders and skiers. Numerous pass options are available for children, adults, senior citizens, families, entire seasons, special dates and engagements, ten-day passes, military passes and business passes as well. Though 35 miles south of Anchorage, Alyeska Resort is an easy drive with unlimited picture stops along the scenic Seward Highway, which has an All American Highway designation. Alyeska Resort, located 40 miles south of Anchorage, is Alaska’s premier year-round resort. The 1,400 acres of terrain with 2,500 feet of vertical rise, is serviced by nine lifts including a 60-passenger aerial tramway, and a high-speed bubble lift.

The Alyeska Resort’s glass enclosed 60-passenger aerial tramway attracts visitors from all over the region. It is open year round for those who enjoy the view from the top of Mount Alyeska, hike the numerous trails or dine at two restaurants (one casual, one fancy). No matter what you are looking for, the unique Alaska vacation, a ski vacation or both, you will find it here at Alyeska Resort.

Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort

Located near Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Ober Gatlinburg is the only ski resort in the state. It is more than just a ski resort, however. It is a complete family vacation spot with an amusement park, indoor ice skating, a bungee tower, an alpine slide, and many other activities and attractions – there is something to please everyone.

With an elevation of 3301 feet, and a vertical drop of 600 feet, Ober Gatlinburg features eight trails: two beginner trails, four intermediate trails, and two advanced trails. There are three lifts, including two quad lifts, one double lift, and one surface lift. The season runs from the middle of December through early March, and night skiing is allowed on all trails except the Grizzly trail.

State-of-the-art snowmaking and snow-grooming equipment ensures good skiing regardless of the weather. The ski season at Ober Gatlinburg generally runs from mid-December through early March. Ober Gatlinburg also offers an alpine slide, indoor ice-skating arena, state-of-the-art video arcade and relaxing Scenic Chairlift ride that provides spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains.

You must not miss the longest chair lift ride in the outh! You will see awesome views of the Great Smoky Mountains. You will also get a bird’s eye view of some of the slopes, and you can have your picture taken on top of the mountain. If you don’t ski, don’t worry! You can ride back down the mountain on the chair lift as well. Don’t forget the Tramway. The tramway departs from downtown Gatlinburg and takes you to the ski resort and the amusement park.

Even if you don’t ski, you can still explore the thrill of flying down a mountain at a high speed – or a slow speed if you choose. This is possible with the Alpine Slide. The slide is approximately 1800 feet long, and takes you down a winding wooded slope. You have total control over your speed with the use of a braking device on each sled. Other attractions at the amusement park include the Black Bear Habitat, a bungee jump, a water race, go karts, indoor ice skating, kiddie land, an arcade, miniature golf, a Spider Web Velcro Wall Jump, water rides, and a shooting range.

No matter what type of fun or adventure you are seeking, there is something to satisfy everyone in the family at Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort and Amusement Park. This is definitely a trip worth taking– especially if you have younger kids or senior citizens traveling with you.

Ski clubs typically offer members access to local and out-of-state ski trips, discount lift tickets, and discounts at local ski shops, as well as the opportunity to meet many like-minded skiers. Many clubs organize a year round schedule of sporting and social events.

No matter where you live, there is a ski club near you. This is true even if you live in a place that does not ever get snowfall! These clubs regularly get together for trips to various mountains, ski areas, and ski resorts. Some are local clubs, meaning that the slopes that they ski on are within driving distance, while others are more national or global, which means that they not only ski locally, if possible, but they also plan ski trips.

Members of ski clubs often receive deep discounts on ski vacation packages. Arrangements are usually made through the club, so that everyone is eligible for the discounts. The money that is required from each member for the trip is usually paid to the club, and the club passes the funds onto pay for lodging, airfare, meals, lift tickets, and other perks that are included in the trip. Because arrangements are being made for a group of people – which is usually fairly large – discounts are given. This benefits all members of the club.

The primary purpose of a ski clubs are to promote the sport of snow skiing, snow boarding, other recreational sports for each season, and to organize lots of regular monthly social activities, for our hundreds of members who enjoy active lifestyles. Primarily a ski club, with more than 20 ski trips a season [SKI SCHEDULE ]. Day trips, weekend, and week-long trips. If you are interested in joining ski club and are in our high
school during the season, passes are about $400. As we near the holiday season, especially Thanksgiving, our instinct as Americans is to give thanks for all we’ve been given in the previous year. This year has been a challenging and interesting one for the Tampa Bay Snow Skiers and Boarders, and there are so many things for us to be thankful for.

While skiing is what brings these groups together in the first place, it is not necessarily what keeps them together. Their love of a common sport, and their common interests and feeling of community is what keeps them together – and it keeps them skiing together for years and years. If you are a skier, you should definitely consider joining a club. It doesn’t matter – in most cases – what level you are at. Beginners are usually welcomed, and this is a great way for beginners to quickly improve their skills and techniques out on the slopes.

If you plan on skiing in Gatlinburg, TN during your next vacation, church retreat, or Smoky Mountain getaway then the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort is where you’ll wind up.

The ski offers several slopes from beginner to advanced, and generates snowfall regularly in the absence of natural precipitation. You will also get a bird?s eye view of some of the slopes, and you can have your picture taken on top of the mountain. If you don?t ski, don?t worry! This is a great site for everybody with plenty of green and blue slopes. With 38 acres of skiing area, it’s small-size enough to get to know all your fellow snow folks.

Winter sports are a great way for families to spend time together while experiencing one of the most beautiful seasons that nature has to offer. Snowmobiling is one of the most thrilling ways to enjoy the winter weather as a family because they can usually rent state-of-the-art snowmobiles along with safety equipment that is needed rather than investing large amounts of money into the sport. Winter vacation resorts often give guests this rental option to relieve the hassle of hauling your equipment with you when you stay with them. In order to increase you family’s chances of having a fun and successful snowmobiling experience, though, there are some safety tips to follow.

The most important safety guideline is that everybody should wear the proper equipment needed for operating a snowmobile. Parents are not an exception. In fact, parents should be the first to put on their protective gear so they can be a model for safe behavior for their kids. Proper snowmobile attire includes waterproof snowmobile suits, insulated and waterproof gloves, rubber bottom boots, and most importantly, snowmobile helmets that meet regulation standards. Together, all of this equipment helps snowmobile riders to stay dry and warm while enjoying the cold winter snow.

Parents should also adhere to the age restrictions when it comes to having an enjoyable snowmobiling experience or vacation. Children under the age of 16 should not operate snowmobiles on their own. These are high-tech machines that require a certain amount of knowledge and skill in order to operate them safely and properly. Snowmobiles also require a certain amount of strength and stamina that children under the age of 16 often lack. Instead, kids between the ages of 6-16 are safer being an adult’s passenger on a snowmobile. Unfortunately, kids under the age of six should not be on a snowmobile at all. Some trails can be bumpy and unpredictable, making it difficult for kids to hold on properly and also making it difficult for parents to hold on to their child during a snowmobile ride.

Adults should take certain precautions before setting out each day on a snowmobile adventure, whether the plans are for a few hours or a few days. It is important to check the weather forecast before beginning your snowmobile trip. This can help you dress accordingly and take the proper equipment to help you brave the winter weather. Checking the status of the snowmobile trail conditions is also important. The safest thing to do is to stay on the groomed and maintained snowmobile trails rather than going on paths that are not traveled or maintained. Not only are they smoother, but if you get stranded, chances are greater that help will find you quicker. Always travel in pairs or groups with your children and first aid kits are also important to have in case of emergency. This should include a small repair kit for your snowmobile along with flares, an extra key, and a cell phone.

Finally, it is best to snowmobile during the day. If your family is taking a multi-day snowmobiling trip, make sure you have time to reach your next destination while the sun is still lighting your way. You can see better during the day and, in case of emergency or equipment failure, others can find you easier during the daylight hours. Snowmobilers are also encouraged to keep their snowmobile’s headlights on at all times and tie a brightly colored flag to their antenna so others will be able to see them more clearly. Other important safety tips are to stay away from snowmobiling on ice and to avoid snowmobiling near roads and other areas where pedestrians often congregate.

Using safety is an important way to fully enjoy the opportunities and thrills that snowmobiling has to offer. It is a great way to keep families active and a great form of exercise even during the cold winter months. With the lack outdoor activities available during the winter season, snowmobiling is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the outdoors for families who would otherwise stay indoors and watch television. Although it takes preparation and precaution, being a safe snowmobiling family will have an immeasurable payoff that everybody will appreciate.

We’ve all dreamed about experiencing the 5 star life style and maybe even sampled it. But how often does the luxury experience truly continue out of the hotel and follow you around for the whole time since you get off the plane up until you get back on it?

For that all round experience of being waited on hand and foot it aids to visit a holiday resort where the tourist industry is polished up to royal and celebrity standards. Add to that the magic of a snow-white ski resort, the skiing itself, food, night life and comprehensive array of off-piste activities and you’ve got yourself an unforgettable experience - that needn’t break the bank.

The beauty of a luxury ski holiday in a world class resort such as Val D’isere is that you can get some very reasonable group offers and have a genuinely remarkable time.

To get the whole experience it’s recommended that you rent out a chalet as opposed to a hotel. Not only for the fun aspect but to truly do the total après ski affair. And don’t worry - gone are the days of pokey little log buildings (OK perhaps some of them still exist) - when I say chalet I mean luxury 5 star with a cook and all the latest appliances.

Depending on your budget you can opt not to eat out every night and do the self catering thing or mix and match a bit of both. If you’re spent from a day on the slopes and don’t feel like going out you can relax and unwind in cozy surroundings. Possibly watch a DVD, have a soak in the hot tub or just take it easy by the fireplace.

The semi-self catering alternative allows the restaurant come to you if you want!

There is some debate as to whether a chalet is better than a hotel or vice versa. It principally comes down to a matter of view, there are plusses and minuses on both positions. But if you like skiing and have an appreciation for lavishness then the chalet experience is a must - even if you just do it the one time.

Obtaining the right chalet for your unique requirements can be tougher than finding a good hotel. So it’s an idea to seek adept professional help to find that perfect memory that will remain with you for ever… and at least keep you cheerful when you’re back at the office!

Peter Webber is a supporter of Powderwhite.com a company who specialise sourcing luxury Val D’isaire Chalets for parties of up to 8.

Aspen Mountain has long been known as the playpen of the rich and famous – and it is. But it is also a great place to take a family ski vacation. Christmas in Aspen is especially wonderful! Aspen Mountain rises above the town of Aspen, with a top elevation of 11215 feet and a vertical drop of 3269 feet. There are 76 trails suitable for beginners, intermediates,
and experts, accessible by eight lifts, including seven chair lifts and one cable car line.

An Aspen ski package will provide the most pleasurable skiing experience you could ever want or need. When off the slopes you can take a stroll through this luxurious city and find many boutiques and much more. There is a lot of history in many of the buildings that are in the downtown area. One of these buildings is the Ute bank; this building can be dated back to the silver area around the 1800’s.

There are numerous places to stay in and around Aspen, with more than 100 restaurants to choose from as well. Ski instructions and equipment rental are abundant in the area, and snowboarders are welcome.

With an Aspen ski package, you’ll have the chance to spend time on a lot of slopes that home skiers of every age and ability levels.

Many of us think you need to be an expert to enjoy Aspen, which is totally fake. Naturally, together with skiing and snowboarding, Aspen also offers cross-country skiing, dog-sledding, and even snowshoe expeditions.

However, the accommodations offers with an Aspen ski package are the most incredible. The accommodations are close to the slopes and they come in lots of different styles, sizes, and price ranges. As an example, somebody desiring some quiet time, maybe going as a romantic rendezvous might select a stylish hotel while a grouping of folks could go with an enormous and fully-equipped condo
