Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort

If you plan on skiing in Gatlinburg, TN during your next vacation, church retreat, or Smoky Mountain getaway then the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort is where you’ll wind up. This is the only ski resort in Tennessee, so if you’re looking for more choices you’ll need to look a little farther east in North Carolina at slopes such as Sugar Mountain, Ski Beech, Appalachian, etc. Ober Gatlinburg Ski Resort is best suited for intermediate skiers and snowboarders but there is a also a lot of terrain for beginners and experts too.

With an elevation of 3301 feet, and a vertical drop of 600 feet, Ober Gatlinburg features eight trails: two beginner trails, four intermediate trails, and two advanced trails. There are three lifts, including two quad lifts, one double lift, and one surface lift. The season runs from the middle of December through early March, and night skiing is allowed on all trails except the Grizzly trail.

Rentals are available for both ski equipment and snowboarding equipment. Private and group lessons for skiing and snowboarding are also available through the Smokey Mountain Snow Sport School. You can also easily find food at the many snack bars, food carts, the café, the restaurant, or in the lounge.

When staying at the Ober Gatlinber Ski Resort you are minutes from numerous attractions, including walking distance from the tramway for the Ski Resort and walking distance from Ripleys Aquarium.

What new slopes will you conquer? What skills will you learn or perfect? Hot chocolate by a fireplace after a day of flying down the slopes? While any of these ideas might be true, it’s only the beginning. Ober Gatlinburg has winter ski slopes, an indoor ice skating rink, a Black Bear Habitat, a scenic chairlift and numerous rides.

The ski offers several slopes from beginner to advanced, and generates snowfall regularly in the absence of natural precipitation. You will also get a bird?s eye view of some of the slopes, and you can have your picture taken on top of the mountain. If you don?t ski, don?t worry! This is a great site for everybody with plenty of green and blue slopes. With 38 acres of skiing area, it’s small-size enough to get to know all your fellow snow folks.
